It's about that time...
The BIG adventure race day is just around the corner, only two days away to be exact :-)
Soooooo excited about this adventure for so many reasons:
1) Set a goal this year of completing an adventure race... YIKES!!!
2) Have stuck through the challenging yet motivating racedayrush and phat chicks training.
Didn't miss any group meetings and did homework on a daily bases.
Had fun completing my weekly blogs.
3) Even though my Sundays were dedicated to training, I had the amazing support of hubby and kiddies!!!
They surprised me last night with support cards and a picture of my two little ones holding up a sign that read "Hooray Mommy" and a smilie... LOVING IT :-) XO
4) I am lucky to be on an AWESOME team that includes: Keri and Beverly-Ann!!!
Our team name is "Scenic Route" :-)
If you've read some of the past blogs... you'll know why that name is fitting, however, we will NOT be taking any scenic routes during our drive to and from the race... as well as during the race!!!
5) Set a goal and I'm doing... now, what will be the next stepping stone?!?!?!!!
P.S.> THANKS to the AWESOME nine ladies who I have met during this amazing journey, we will continue to stay connected.
Also, a huge thank you to the coaches Neil, Susie and Shane, as well as Brian.
You guys are AWESOME too!!!
Looking forward to this Saturday, July 24, 2010...
It's going to be, how shall I say?
Just one word will help sum it up, since it's been the word to describe everything and anything during our journey, and that is the word "AWESOME"!!!
XO to ALL
KEEP SMILING
:-)

Always Look On the Bright Side of Life :-)
My last blog was different...
I guess you can say I was upset, sad, and scared.
Still am because not sure what the outcome will be for my father-in-law.
He has prostate cancer.
He was diagnosed seven years ago, had surgery, was put on meds.
Everything looked great but, it's back :-(
They're going to do some tests to see if it is localized so that they can do radiation.
Crossing our fingers that it didn't spread.
Trying to stay positive... can't be negative, it doesn't feel good and it's not worth thinking negative when you can always look on the bright side of life :-)
Sooooooooooo... as I stated in my previous blog, I had written a blog and when I went to "publish post" it didn't work.
So, I'm going to repeat some of what I wrote... ready???
I'm going to try to stay on course here, thanks to the navigation we've learned throughout our journey.
On Sunday, June 27th the team got together at Mountsberg Conservation Area.
We were put through a MAJOR workout.
Trail biking, navigation, running, strength training, etc., etc.
I think we can all agree, it was insane but, we all celebrated with beers and C-H-O-C-L-A-T-E thanks to Shane and Susie!!!
We were also told that day that this was our final workout together :-(
We were all kind of taken back because we had just found out that there would be no more challenges together until The Rockstar Race on July 24th.
We will meet to find out who the two winners are this Thursday, July 15th.
If you ask all the women, who put their hard work, sweat, tears every time we faced a challenge... even those who got injured along the way, who they think won, you'll get a resounding "WE ALL WON"!!!
We've all learned a lot about ourselves and each other.
We have come to appreciate just how far we can push ourselves when we have the right people pushing us :-)
Keep working hard ladies, remember, this is another stepping stone to your next challenge :-)

I actually had a blog written a couple of days ago, when I went to "publish post" it said it was unsuccessful :-(
That SUCKS!!!
Anyhow, I'm back to write my blog, yet again.
I don't mind writing my blogs... it's just finding the time :-)
Just recently we found out that my father-in-law would need to go through radiation starting mid-August... I'm trying to be strong here, really I am...
I'm just going to leave it at that because it's just too soon and it hurts too much to think and talk about it.
FUCK, FUCK, FuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is not enough to express our emotions right now.
I was going to write more but I don't think I can...
XO to all
I'm not big on religion but, I'm praying. I'm praying real hard that every little thing is going to be alright.
That SUCKS!!!

Getting Close To The End :-(
It's a bitter sweet time, as we get closer to the end of the Phat Chicks/Race Day Rush training.
Our BIG adventure Rockstar Adventure Race happens on July 24th!!!
It's been quite the adventure. All the hard work and dedication our team captains: Susie, Shane, and Neil have put into our training, have gone above and beyond our expectations.
Just wanted to say THANK YOU to all of you for everything you have done for the team.
This Sunday we are getting together at Mountsberg Conservation Area. We'll be doing some trail running and biking, which in my mind equals LOVING IT!!!
I love trail running. Nothing nicer than being out there amongst trees and major tripping hazards, to make the adventure that much better, seriously... no sarcasim :-)
I've been keeping up with the workouts in the morning.
Going to continue with the morning routine once I'm off for the summer just because it gets my day going. I look forward to it, wakes me up :-)
I'm off for the afternoon... going to go and get the weekend started!!!

Everything Happens In Threes...
This past weekend was a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!!
It was busy BUT, tons of fun :-)
I'm going to jump right into telling you about Sunday.
The team got together at Kern Cliff Park for trail running and a bit of strength training... hold on I'm getting ahead of myself here... let's start from the beginning, shall we???
Sunday was Father's Day...
Hope all you daddies out there had a GREAT day!!!
In our household, it's become tradition that for Mother's/Father's Day the better half helps the kiddies prepare breakfast as a way of celebrating this special day together :-)
Got up early on Sunday, before everyone and went for a nice run.
When I got back my father in-law was walking up our driveway.
He came by to look at our furnace because our air conditioner for some reason was not working last night... felt hot and sweaty while sleeping (and not in a good way)... not much sleep :-(
The kiddies had got up and were ready to make breakfast for their wonderful daddy. I needed to take a quick shower before getting breakfast started... daddy was still sleeping :-)
While getting breakfast ready, daddy and grandpa (A.K.A. Nonno, grandpa in Italian) sat and opened their gifts from the kiddies for Father's Day.
The five of us sat and enjoyed breakfast together.
It was great because this was the first year that the kids got to have breakfast with two of their favourite men in their lives (their other grandpa got his fill in the afternoon).
I quickly ate and rushed off to meet the wonderful ladies (A.K.A. The Team) at Kern Cliff Park @ 10am.
I love the drives on Sundays before and after meeting up with the team.
It's my time to enjoy... those who have kids, you know what I'm talking about, we'll even take going to the bathroom without our names being called, so yes, I enjoy the ride to Neverland.
I turn up the tunes as loud as I can to drown out my voice while I sing along :-)
As I pulled into the parking lot, I noticed tons of people.
There was a Asian tour group of about fifty or more people, getting ready to do a hike together.
I met up with: Susie, Shannon, Keri, Gail, and Amy.
While standing there talking and waiting to see if any more members would show up, we noticed a used condom on the floor...YUK!!!
We all laughed about it.
We waited but no other member showed up, so off we went to our trail run before the tour group got started.
It was slippery, muddy and wet on the trails.
Approximately ten minutes into our run, Amy injured her left ankle.
We all felt really bad for her because we knew how much she enjoyed the challenges and the boot camps.
While helping Amy back to the parking lot, Keri stepped in dog poop with her brand new shoes... you had to just laugh, better than crying... just saying, JUST Saying!!!
NOT that you're a crier Keri... XOXOXOXOXOXO
Poor girl had her shoes Christened by doggie crap!!!
Don't worry, she got it all off... YOU GO KERI :-)
Hence the title: "Everthing Happens In Threes".
1) Used condom... YUK!!!
2) Amy's ankle... Sucks!!!
3) Keri stepping in doggie doo doo... Stinker!!!
Anyhow, back to the story.
If I start to ramble... just stop reading this :-)
Shannon took Amy home and hopefully had her ankle looked at by a Dr.
Gail, Keri and I kind of stood their after Shannon and Amy took off, staring at Susie wondering if we were going to call it a day... yeah, right!!!
Susie asked us if we still were up for a run, we all said: "yes"... so, off we went.
Lots of hills, great workout.
It was a nice run, we took turns talking because that's one of so many things we do best as women... we talk :-)
There was a point in one of our many conversations, where we talked about Susie's work as a firefighter.
We (okay, maybe not Susie) were all in agreeance as to how we found firefighters really HOT!!!
There's something about firefighters... could be the uniform but, it's not the same if you see a police officer, doctor, etc.
Firefighters have that je ne sais quoi :-)
We got to a look out point, overlooking the area where we first worked out about a month or so ago.
We did some push-ups, lunges with kicks, tricep dips, etc.
It was great... we continued our run back to the parking lot.
It was a hot day but, it was nice running through the trails, nice breeze.
At the end of our run, Susie treated us to chocolate milk... everyone's favourite :-)
THANKS Susie... XO!!!
Before heading home, I stopped by Indigo's to get a smoothie and latte... LOVING IT!!!
And of course to use the washroom... you sure don't want to use what is offered at Kern Cliff... just ask Susie and Amy, who came out gagging... talk about YUK!!! That ain't delicious Gail... LOL ;-)
Got home, quickly showered while hubby and kiddies were still out enjoying their "daddy and little bundles of joy day" together, bike riding through the park and neighbourhood.
We took a drive out to visit my parents for Father's Day.
Enjoyed the rest of the afternoon together with my parents, sister and her kids, swimming in their pool, eating and all that other fun stuff :-)
The life... I'm loving it!!!
XO

Biking + Navigation= FUN!!!
I thought Biking + Navigation = Nervousness BUT, I found out on Sunday that it actually eqauls FUN!!!
One of our team members, Sharon hasn't been able to join us for the last couple of trainings due to injury.
Knowing how active she is and how much she misses being with us, I thought it would be nice to show her that we miss her too.
So, I brought my video camera with me and asked everyone to pass on a message through video... little did I know, being the computer genius that I am, that I would need to edit and get it on the web somehow. It all worked out in the end :-)
Met the team at Hilton Falls. We were told to bring our bikes and compass.
Brian, our navigation pro, gave us a refresher course on using our compass. It seems to really help the second time around.
We were put into four groups of two's. My partner was Joyce :-)
We all started at the same time. Our mission was to go to four check points and find the beach ball that was hidden, write down the colour and make it back to the starting point.
Sounds easy enough...
Lets throw some rocks, mud, and a hidden beach ball that could not be found first time AND second time around into all this adventure and we'll call it a day.
Joyce and I started with our first check point. Could not locate the ball.
For some reason I was focused on the second check point and completely forgot about the first one.
My poor partner must have thought I was nuts, as I was walking in the opposite direction of where we should have been looking.
We didn't want to waste any more time, we got on our bikes and headed towards the second check point.
We found three balls but, needed one more in order to complete the task.
Joyce and I enjoyed the ride through the woods.
At one point we passed Neil, Gail, and Beverly-Ann.
We were a little happy that we didn't see any of the other groups because in our minds we thought: "Hey, we MUST be in the lead".
Boy, were we wrong...
Talk about feeling a little to confident!
As we headed back to our first check point at 12:45pm to find the missing ball, that we couldn't find the first time.
Our goal for our time to be at the finish line was 1pm.
We searched again... NOTHING.
Soooooo, we kept re-doing our search... NOTHING.
As we went into the woods I would say: "Please no snakes, please don't let there be any snakes".
Luckily, I didn't see any throughout this adventure :-)
At one point, we both said: "I think someone moved it".
We searched a bunch of times and we finally said: "F*!K this, there's no way there's still a ball here, lets get out of here, we could still make it back before the others".
We left that check point at around 1:05pm.
As we headed towards the finish line...
My worst fear came true, and it's ONLY because I'm soooooo darn clumsy :-)
Joyce and I came to the same hill we had to ride up at the start of the race.
Joyce took one look at it and said: "I think I'm going to walk my bike down".
I thought it's easier going down than up... so, while we were already on an incline, I started getting on my bike and as soon as I got on, I wanted to get off.
As I went to get off, I fell on the gravel and slid a bit.
I heard Joyce ask: "Are you ok, do you need some help?"
I was starting to get up so, I said: "I'm ok... wait, I think I need some help, I'm stuck".
I got my left foot stuck in either my back wheel or something.
Poor Joyce got off her bike to help me get my twisted foot out... THANK YOU!!!
I got up and went to lift my bike up, at which point I noticed one of Joyce's foot pedals from her bike was stuck in my front wheel, and we had to get that out.
When I got my act together, I said: "I think I'll walk my bike down, now :-)"
We got closer to the bottom of the hill.
I hopped on my bike and yelled to Joyce "Yeah, we're almost at the finish, come on Joyce".
As we were riding to the finish, my phone started ringing...
At this point I knew we had come in last because I had a feeling they were calling to see if we were ok.
I didn't answer the phone because as I turned the corner I saw the team sitting at the bench.
They cheered for us as we came in :-)
Everyone shared stories of their adventure rides.
Oh, and the reason we couldn't find the beach ball was because they had already started taking them away... getting ready to go home!!!
I cleaned myself up with some wet naps "us mommies" always have in the car.
Amy was kind enough to give me one of her daughter's Dora band-aids... thank you!!!
Even though Joyce and I came in LAST PLACE...
We felt like we still won the race :-)
We worked well together. What ever one member missed during our adventure the other got and we helped one another along the way.
We didn't get lost and we really enjoyed the ride as we made our way to each check point.
I'm thinking I need to leave my Converse at home...
These damn shoes have brought me nothing but bad luck, during our trainings.
I already lost one shoe and I still have the other sitting in the basement... JUST IN CASE its missing partner showed up from our canoe adventure :-)
Then Sunday; with being in last place AND the fall...
I don't see any other reason besides blaming the shoe... could you?!?!?!!!
P.S.> Please don't answer that ;-)
Next Sunday is another Boot Camp with Susie :-)
P-L-E-A-S-E nooooooooooo SUICIDES AND BURPEES!!!
XO... 'til next time.

If ONLY There Were MORE HOURS In A Day!!!
Yes, if only there were more hours in the day BUT, I'll take what I can get.
Who am I to complain? It's all good :-)
SUNDAY - Met up with team and Susie at LaSalle Park. We were warned ahead of time to bring our heart rate monitors.
We had an awesome cardio workout today, with some strength training thrown in... JUST FOR FUN :-)
Before doing our cool-down, we did everyone's favourite... SUICIDES :-)
Thank GOD, Susie did not mention ahead of time that we would be doing FIVE sets of suicides!!!
After each set we would check our heart rate, I couldn't get mine past 170. As we paced around, Susie says: "Get ready, we're doing another set in 10, 9, 8,..."
Susie at one point during our heart rate check asked: "What does your heart rate say?" I responded: "Mine says: What the F*!K are you thinking???"
You think you're pushing yourself but you never know your limits until you work out in a group setting. It's a great way to motivate one another and help push us to our limits.
I have a running id bracelet... just in case I get lost and I need to be returned to my rightful owner ;-)
I crack me up...
Anyhow, on the bracelet I have written: "I think I can... I know I can..."
When ever I am running on my own and need that extra push, I look at my wrist and read my inspiration :-)
MONDAY - I didn't want to get out of bed... come on I'm sure we've all had one of those days... well mine was Monday, early morning.
Mind you, I look forward to my workouts because it starts my day and it gives me the energy I need to keep me going throughout the day until I get myself ready for zzzzzzzzzz land at night :-)
TUESDAY - I did our newest homework routine. Which consisted of, my favourite: BURPEES with push-ups and power ups, mountain climbers, squat jumps, then you had to do ten travelling push ups. Plyo jumps and tricep dips, one leg squats, planks, glutes. I also included sprinting 15m, 3x after each circuit... working on my speed... trying :-)
This routine was similar to what we also did on Sunday.
It was hard but, a lot of fun :-)
WEDNESDAY - Woke up this morning very anxious to get started on my run.
I thought instead of freaking the neighbours out with my running back and forth on the side walk, I would take my 30 sec. sprints around the neighbourhood and incorporate it in my jogging... what FUN :-)
The sky looked a little iffy when I got started.
I did my warm-up by jumping rope and running to the end of the block and back, did some stretches, and got started with my first of ten, thirty second sprints.
At the end of each sprint I would continue jogging around the neighbourhood.
I felt a few drops every now and then.
I kept thinking: "Please wait 'til I'm done".
Mother Nature was once again looking out and she held off until I got home.
It started coming down, pretty good as I was getting breakfast ready for the little sleepy bundles of joy :-)
Tomorrow is another fun strength training day...
Sunday the team is getting together for biking AND navigation... can we say: "YIKES?!?!?!!!"
I'm soooooo clumsy as it is, and I've proven that already a couple of times during our trainings.
I have not been on my bike since the last time we've been out together. I don't think I'll get a chance to get on until Sunday... just saying!!!
Keep fingers crossed that all goes well for all of us on Sunday, I'm nervous just thinking about it.

Just another blog...
Hello it's me again...
It's Friday and it looks gorgeous out there.
Just finished work, going to head to the grocery store before going home to freshen up... meeting up with some friends for dinner and drinks.
The Jazz festival is happening at the Beaches (East End).
Hubby is going with his co-workers to Blue Jays game.
Kiddies are going to spend time with grandparents and get spoiled :-)
I did the traing(s) this week.
After each ciruit, I've incorporated either a 30 second sprint or 3x sprinting for 15metres. I need to continue building on my speed.
I gotta be honest...
I have NOT been on my bike since we have gotten together.
There's different reasons; lack of time after work (baseball with the kiddies seems to take up a lot of the evening time).
Last year, I rode my bike to work as soon as the weather would get nice. I haven't been able to this year.
Don't know why... just haven't.
Looking forward to seeing Susie and the Phat Chicks this Sunday for our "boot camp" workout at LaSalle Park :-)
Well, that's my blog for today.
Going to go and enjoy the night out :-)

Beautiful Day + Canoeing = FUN!!!
Can we say beautiful day?!?!?!!!
Mother Nature has been very good to us lately :-)
Met the team at Kelso for our 2pm canoe adventure. Neil met us near the info booth, and used "simple math" in sorting out amount needed to pay for the rentals... thank you Neil :-)
Got our lifejackets, didn't think we would need... luckily we got them (tell you why, later).
Each person partnered up with another team member. Keri and I partnered up; happy, happy, joy, joy :-)
We were taught some basic moves; turning, going straight, etc. Our canoe (not us) kept wanting to turn instead of go straight.
It was such a gorgeous day, I think it was about 33 degrees!!!
We were splashing water on one another as we passed the other teammates :-)
At one point we had to get out of the canoe and go up the hill then when Shane said go, we all ran to our canoe's, threw on our lifejackets and paddled our way over to where Neil was waiting in his canoe. He was surrounded by four colourful beach balls. Each canoe had to grab a ball and make their way back to shore. Gail, Mel as well as Amy and Shannon, were neck and neck for the finish. Gail and Mel won the fun challenge.
Keri and I were the third canoe to make it in. I turned to see where Beverly-Ann and Sharon were... unfortunetly, they were in the water :-(
Luckily, they were enjoying the swim back to shore... lugging their canoe with them.
We had another challenge...
Balloon on a stick was taped to the back of the four canoes. The goal was to paddle around and get as many balloons as possible :-)
BUT, first we had to paddle our way to the middle of the lake and form a star... Rockstar :-)
As we were waiting to get started, I took off my shoes and socks, since we didn't need them any more.
Let the games begin. This was crazy fun...
Keri and I got a balloon, can't remember who's balloon we got and not sure if it was then that I lost my paddle in the water. I shouted "Keri, we gotta go back, my paddle is in the water". Keri paddled, as I used my arms as paddles to help move us along.
So, at some point... either when I was getting my paddle or when we were getting another balloon... we tipped!!!
All I remember is saying, "Oh no Keri, we're going in".
We were in the middle of the lake. We flipped the canoe back up, it was filled with water.
I remember seeing my shoes and everything else in the canoe. So, I told Keri "Lets continue getting the balloons from the other canoes". Keri said, "I don't know if we're allowed to do that, lets ask Shane". I being the idiot of the two, took matters in my own hands and swam towards the nearest canoe, hoping to get a balloon. I think I got one, but lost it when I let go and someone else picked it up.
I swam back to Keri, who somehow managed to make her way back into the sinking canoe.
She made it back to shore in the canoe as I swam back. I have to admit... being in the water felt soooooo good, didn't want to get out :-)
When I got back to shore, helped Keri turn the canoe over to get the water out of the canoe.
At one point Keri was looking through her backpack... realizing that the bag with car keys for three of her teammates, were now missing, I was one of them.
She went back into the water in hopes of finding them. Sharon went to help her look. I got into the canoe and paddled around, following the current, in hopes of finding the back on the shoreline... we had no luck.
In the end those of us who needed our spare keys, called our loved ones and asked them to take the drive to Milton.
I was the last one to leave. Sharon and Keri kept me company. They were great... time flew by as we did what women to best... talk :-)
Besides the unfortunate end to the day... it was an awesome day!!!
P.S.> Keri, what happened today could have happened to any one of us... don't worry about it, what happened, happened. We all got home safely and we all had a great time out on the waters today. Keep that in mind :-)

Never a dull moment...
Got up this morning... another gorgeous day :-)
My husband had to leave for a business trip to BC and LA and will be back later this week, so I had told the little bundles of joy, the night before, that I would be outside working out, so that they wouldn't get worried if they woke up and didn't see me in the morning.
I took my homework #2, yoga mat and water outside on the driveway.
It was great... after each circuit I did the thirty second sprint down the sidewalk then jogged back to my driveway to repeat circuit.
I was running out of time so I only completed the first two circuits and five sprints.
I'll do the core strength training tomorrow as well as the sprinting (interval) again, in its entirety :-)
I completed my workout, had the music pumping full-blast in my ears when all of a sudden I felt a tap on my arm.
Scared the F*!K out of me.
I turned around to see my son holding the phone.
I'm thinking who could be calling this early in the morning?
Gave my son a big, sweaty morning kiss and took the phone.
It was my hubby on the other end sounding very tired.
He had a flight last night from BC to LA. He explained that the plane had hydraulic problems and had to turn around...made a scary landing with fire trucks following them. Lots of vibration during landing because spoilers on wings were not working.
I was shocked and emotional thinking THANK GOD he's ok.
I told him how much I loved him and that I was really, really glad he called... wish he would have called me in the middle of the night when all this happened but, he's ok and that's all that matters!!!
Never a dull moment...
We'll see what tomorrow brings :-)

L-O-N-G Weekend!!!
Gotta LOVE long weekends :-)
Great weather we've been having... might as well get out there and enjoy, so I did!!!
Sunday morning got together with Gail and Amy @ LaSalle Park, did our latest homework, which included: sprinting 3x in between each excercise.
It was great not having to do it on my own, made the workout seem less painful because we were outside on a gorgeous day with the gentle breeze from the lake refreshing us as we sweat up a storm!!!
After our workout, I said good-bye to the ladies, I ended up doing our stairs workout that we had done on our first session together.
People must have thought I was weird (they weren't far off) as I ran down the side and did the side squats up the stairs, then running up, etc.
It was great, after that was done, I ran down by the water towards the left, there was a boardwalk that led me to a trail back up the hill.
Went to the end (led me back to the parking lot) I ran back down towards the water and back to the stairs.
I almost ran up the hill and touched the tree BUT my legs felt like jello by this point and my heart was ready to jump out of my chest... soooooo, I walked up quickly and touched the tree with a huge smile on my face :-)
I got in my car and instead of turning left to head home the usual way, I thought "let me go right, see what's down there".
I saw gorgeous mansions with huge lots and the homes on the right I'm guessing their backyards are over looking the lake... how nice is that. Talk about not having to get away to the cottage when you've got a house like that :-)
So, as I'm driving I see QEW, I jump on... I see the bridge heading towards Hamilton... YIKES... WRONG WAY!!!
I took a couple of wrong turns, my navigation was way off.
In the end I was on the right path, heading home :-)
Got home and my husband's cousin brought her dog over for the kiddies to play with. I ended up playing with him too :-)
I cleaned up and we hung out outside for a bit then went out for wood oven pizza... I always end up getting the grilled calamari with veggies, my fav :-)
As we were driving home, we thought lets go for a walk around the neighbourhood, I said "lets take a drive somewhere, park then walk".
I always rave to my hubby about how beautiful Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, etc. are with their parks and other amazing outdoor adventures, just steps from their front door.
Soooooo, we took a drive to Port Credit (Keri's neck of the woods). The kids brought their scooters, they rode as we tried catching up to them :-)
It was such a nice night out... we didn't want to stop walking. As we were heading towards the lighthouse, I thought I heard my name (there are so many Szerenka's in this world of ours... very common name... NOT!!!). I heard it again, I turned to see a friend of mine, who I haven't seen for quite some time now. She was there with her husband and twin boys, her daughter was not there. Talk about a small world, it was great!!!.
We didn't want the day to end. So, we went home and set up the chairs in the backyard and got ready for the fireworks!!!
My husband had bought some earlier in the day, I sat with the kiddies, lighting up sparkles :-)
It was a GREAT day + night :-)

Biking 101...
I finally took a shower :-)
I rushed home after meeting up with the team for our first bike ride together.
I picked up the kiddies, hubby is out with the boyz ... got the kids ready for bed and what ever else needed to be done.
As I was showering, I was thinking of our bike ride together, I have to be honest, I'm very disappointed with myself :-(
Flat surface no problem... I have noooooooooo clue what we did tonight. I was there but, I wasn't, does that make any sense???
Today, started off pretty good however, yesterday afternoon my throat started really hurting and this morning was the same.
I went for a short run before taking kiddies to school and going on work trip to Wonderland.
Did tons of rides. Went on the Behemoth and as we were rolling up the hill I almost broke into tears thinking how high are we going??? AND how far down are we falling???
By the end of the day I was feeling a bit shaky and dizzy.
I quickly raced home to get my bike and get changed to meet up with the team for our bike ride. Was still feeling light headed and shaky.
I ended up getting stuck in sooooooooooo much traffic. I was late about 10 minutes.
I thought for sure I was not going to see anyone, thought they would have gone for their bike ride.
Luckily everyone was still in the parking lot :-)
Susie had us doing some warm ups before we took off on our bikes. Running felt so odd, was not feeling up to it at all but, I did it :-)
We got on our bikes... cameras rolling (really?!?!?!!!)
I was fine riding through the neighbourhood...
Not sure where things went wrong. Next thing I knew I was on the ground. I think I was told to ride fast and lift the front end of my bike (while I'm still on it) to go up the curb, perhaps it was called "bumping?"
Everyone was soooooooooooooo kind, asking if I was "okay?"
I was embarrassed and even more shaky then before. I felt very emotional on the inside.
I told everyone "I was fine, no problem." In my head I was thinking "please leave, so that I could ride back to my car and drive away crying".
I tried getting back on my bike, but I couldn't peddle, tried again, still wouldn't go.
I looked down and noticed the chain fell off.
Now, I REALLY wanted to give up, then Shane came to the rescue.
He asked things were okay, I said "no, my chain fell off." He put his bike down and took over. He was really, really great. Honestly, it was perfect timing. I almost started crying because his timing was so perfect, I needed a helping hand and he was there to offer it.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO SHANE!!!
I could have given up but because a teammate stopped what they were doing to help out, it ment the world to me.
Keri also had her chain come off, Shane helped her out. Poor Keri took a major fall while going up a dirt hill... I was really getting spooked now.
I was terrified of either myself or one of my teammates taking a horrific fall.
I was not giving it my all tonight, felt like I was holding back.
The terrain we encountered tonight was something I was not used to on a bike. Trail "running" no problemo BUT, trail "biking" I'm nervous.
Mind you I enjoyed the racing against one another, that was fun!!!
Shannon did amazing going up the hills, she got free running shoes as a reward... you go girl!!!
We got wet too... not by choice.
Poor Neil, I think he twisted or landed on his thumb the wrong way and he was in a lot of pain. Get this he was trying to carry his bike across the river and back.
WHY you might ask??? I don't know... ask S. Brown.
On our way back to our cars, Tracey was a huge help. I still had a hard time "bumping" my bike up and over the many curbs, she waited for me so that I wasn't left behind. Thank you Tracey :-) XOXOXO
After the three hour tour we returned to our bikes. We all ended up getting amazing heart monitors... THANKS!!!
Everyone did an amazing job tonight!!!
I'm still feeling a bit dizzy and shaky as I write this. I just wanted to write because it seems to help when I write things down.
Also, I wanted to thank Neil, Shane, Matt, and I'm sorry (I forget her name, who has done races before), Susie and all the wonderful ladies who help make this team GREAT, couldn't have done it without you all.
XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Lets Blog... Shall We?!?!?!!!
Okay, I keep meaning to sit down and blog... but then I start reading everyone else's blogs, which I l-o-v-e doing and distraction sets in... it's all good :-)
Sunday - The team got together for a 45min. run through Kelso's trails. It was great, it's been a while since I've done trail running, I really missed it. I look forward to signing up for a couple of 5Peaks runs this year.
It was really, really great seeing the wonderful ladies that make up our team.
Susie brought us together, motivated us, which in turn helped us motivate one another.
We clapped, cheered and shouted words of encouragement as each person passed by.
It was such a great day out, mother nature was definitely on our side :-)
I got home feeling very energized. I ended up; cutting the grass, cleaning up the patio furniture, trimming a few branches.
Before you knew it, it was dinner time... where did the time go???
My wonderful husband made us BBQ and we went for a nice walk with the little bundles of joy.
I tell you by that point I felt like I was sleep walking.
All of a sudden it hit me... I need to sleep.
I ended up putting the kiddies to bed and going to bed too.
I think I fell asleep by 8:30pm... hahahahaaa, WOW that's early!!!
Monday - Even though I went to bed early last night, I still felt tired however, I knew I had to complete one of my strength training homeworks.
I stood in my basement watching the clock ticking by, wondering how I could talk myself out of working out this morning BUT, I couldn't do it.
I knew I had to kick it up a notch this week, so I couldn't skip today's workout.
I did the burpees, jump ups on the stairs, planks, squats, etc., etc.
It wasn't easy but, I did it :-)
Tuesday - I was soooooooooo looking forward to today's workout, why you might ask???
Because I LOVE running outside AND today I got to work on my speed... I definitely need work on that.
I went for a short run and then the fun began "interval training" a.k.a. sprinting :-)
I had to do ten reps of sprints for thirty seconds every three minutes... does that sound crazy? It is... that's what makes it FUN!!!
I'm telling you, the first sprint I did, I felt like the first day we did our group workout at LaSalle Park, when we did the suicide runs... I felt like puking... not a good feeling BUT, yes there is a but, you get over it :-)
If neighbours were looking out their windows, they must have been thinking who is she trying to get away from? I think I scared some of the early walkers as I flew by them huffing and puffing, smiling as I said "good morning".
YES... I completed another challenge... happy, happy, joy, joy!!!
P.S. Tomorrow will be a real challenge, as I tackle this week's homework.
This will include; push ups, lunges, squats, planks, etc.
Oh did I mention, in between each exercise we need to sprint fifteen metres 3x...
Good night... I got to go, tomorrow will be the start of yet another fun day :-)

Story Continued...
I'm back :-)
Baseball for my little princess was cancelled, didn't find out until we got there :-(
I bundled up the little bundles of joy... I'm talking winter coats and all, off we went to baseball. I had checked my email before we left, thinking it might be cancelled due to weather (it was starting to rain). Didn't get an email...
Anyhow, off we went, when we got to the park, I had a parent letting me know that it was cancelled. It was like playing broken telephone as each parent passed the message on to another parent, as they rolled into the parking lot.
Kind of glad it was cancelled... going to quickly finish up my blog and hang out with ME Love :-)
Okay, navigation; Rattle Snake Point, story continued...
I met up with some of the team members: Beverly-Ann, Tracey, Amy, Susie, and Shane.
Missed the rest of the team :-(
We were each given a compass and were introduced to Brian who taught us the basics of navigation, using a map and compass, also paying close attention to our surroundings.
It was interesting to say the least trying to absorb all the information that was given but once we got out there and were given the opportunity to give it a go, it was sm-oo-th sailing... yah right!!!
I have to admit, it was fun, and we (the gal's) had a great time making light of the fact that we, at most times, were just not getting it.
Every time I thought I was understanding what I was doing, Brian was there to point me in the right direction... by asking us questions and helped us correct what we were doing wrong.
We stayed on track, for the most part.
A couple of times we had to split up into two groups, one group went through tall grass. Which to me sounds like this --- tall grass + me = SNAKES!!!
Soooooo, I stuck to the path... little did I know that the second time around, I would be going through the tall grass, just to be fair.
I have to admit, this was my least fun moment.
I was in no state of mind to pay any attention to my map, let alone compass. I just wanted to get the F*!K out of the grass, swampy thingie as fast as I could without falling.
All I remember is Beverly-Ann and Brian ahead of me and Shane some where behind me... we're all running, pretty sure for different reasons.
Today, Shane sent out the video of the navigation adventure.
I thought, I've got to do my blog, kept putting it off... now it's done!!!
Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy :-)
We meet again this Thursday for our bike adventure!!!

Let the fun continue...
WOW... What a day :-)
Today was the 13th Annual Mini-Special Olympics. I along with four staff members and eleven special needs students went to the Hanger (Dufferin/Allen Rd.). We met up with approx. fifteen other schools. We all got t-shirts that had "Imagine... Dream... Believe" on the front.
It was a day filled with fun activities: basketball, baseball, dancing, maze, beach volleyball... just to name a few :-)
It tugs on your heart strings to see these amazing students smiling and having the time of their lives with the incredible student volunteers and everyone else around them.
Everyone had a GREAT time... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this day... we all look forward to it every year!!!
Now on a completely different note...
Lets talk a little about the navigation session at Rattle Snake Point, that was this past Sunday.
I gotta make this quick because my little princess has baseball AND it's freezing out there!!!
Okay, it was yet another cold day... when I say cold I mean F*!Kin C-O-L-D... that's right, cold!!!
Anyhow, enough about the weather :-)
SHOOT... I'm running out of time here... I need to continue my story later... gotta run

It's been hard...
It was a tough Friday... it seems as though time has stood still, since then.
I set my alarm clock for Saturday because I had one more homework to complete for the week. I wasn't sure if I was going to do it when I woke up, all I knew is that I had to complete it.
Having known Meredith and Susie for a short time, they motivated us to give it our all, even when we didn't feel like it or thought we had no more to give.
So, I woke up Saturday morning with a sense of determination, I had a mission to complete. I went and got myself ready but I was still unsure, was I up for it? I went down stairs and took out my homework sheet. Started my homework and as I went through it I kept thinking of Meredith showing us each move so that we knew how to do it at home once we were on our own. I did the burpees and I think I actually enjoyed it. It was tough, I think when I got to the push ups I broke down.
It was hard doing the workout without thinking of Meredith, Susie and the group, all of us doing the different routines together not too long ago.
After some tear breaks during the homework I went for a short but much needed outdoor run. The run was hard too, people must have thought I was a crazy person because I would break down during my run, as I would think of our warm up run the first day together at La Salle Park.
I got back to the house to stretch on the steps leading to my front door. I broke down yet again because I ended up completing my mission for the day. It was very hard emotionally and even physically, my legs felt like jello during the run.
My hubby came out and saw me crying, I couldn't stop. He comforted me, I told him "I've only known Meredith for a short time but it's still hard to understand how this could have happened to someone so young and who had so much to give to others".
Meredith was an amazing and inspiring person who will hold a special place in all our hearts.

Very Sad Day...
I don't know why I am writing, it just seems to help.
It's a very sad day...
It all started last night. After writing in my blog, I checked my work email. We got notice that a student (unnamed) was seriously injured during Thursday (yesterday) afternoon's rugby game. He was rushed to hospital, we would have people from the board coming to the school to talk to us. I was in shock as I read the email out loud to my husband, trying to make sense of it all. I sat on the couch wondering who the student was and if he was going to be ok.
I got to work this morning, seeing the media on the sidewalk. I walked into the staffroom, where I saw two staff members crying and hugging one another. It was an awful feeling, then I was told by another staff member that there was an announcement made that there would be an important staff meeting in the school chapel at 8:30am.
We gathered as a staff in the chapel, where we were told the story of what had happened to Wesley, 16 years old, during the rugby game. We had also been told that he had no vital signs when paramedics showed up. Wesley is currently at Sunnybrook Hospital in an induced coma and that they needed to raise his body temp. before running any tests. The doctors were hoping to run tests tomorrow at 9am. His mom was hopeful and she asked that we pray for her son's quick recovery.
Both staff and students were walking around in shock throughout the day. This tragedy had brought our school community even closer together as we prayed and cried during this difficult time.
I sat down to check my email, I think it was around 1:30pm.
I read Gail's email, I shook my head as I said to myself "No, I read this wrong, please tell me I read this wrong".
I emailed Gail and she wrote back confirming that Meredith, one of our amazing Phat Chick trainers, had been seriously injuried while riding her bike Thursday afternoon (yesterday).
She had been wearing a helmet but suffered serious head injuries when hit by a car.
As I type this I feel numb, the crying comes in waves and the shock still remains.
She was put on life support, however, she was sadly taken off and passed on at 1:45pm today.
I can't stop the crying...
I can't go to bed yet, I don't know why...
I am grieving for the loss of a beautiful, inspiring, fun loving, amazingly phat chick.
Reading all the emails sent back and forth today, we are ALL grieving.
Meredith has touched a lot of lives in a very positive way, she will be greatly missed.
XOXOXO to ALL

A Day In The Life...
Lets do a day in the life of me...
This morning I heard it again... beep, beep, beep, remember that annoying thing from my last blog, called an alarm clock? It went off at the usual time around 5:15am, kept pressing on the snooze until about 5:30am. At which point I got out of bed and went to get ready for my morning workout (homework #2).
I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth, when the door opened. It was my six year old son, he had wet the bed (he drinks like a fish and has little mishaps every now and then). Anyhow, helped him get cleaned up and sent to continue his sleep with his daddy in our cozy bed. I then removed his bed sheets and tossed it in the machine.
I went down to the basement and got ready for my second homework routine... YIKES, who ever invented push-ups with medicine ball (here we go again, just like them burpees) SUCKS!!! WOW, lots of planks, this way and that way, my elbows were getting rug burn... get your mind out of the gutter people!!!
Completed the workout, ran upstairs to get kids lunches warmed up for their thermos.
As that was happening I started on their breakfast.
Went to wake up the little prince and princess.
Jumped in the shower, got ready for work.
Was just about to take kids to their morning destination, hubby was super-sweet, he offered to drive them (he had a late night at work and was going in a tad later today).
I drove to work... I work in a high school in the special ed. dept., working at times with special needs students.
I got ready for two back to back classes of exercise with my favourite students. We did jogging, sprints, lunges, stairs (also did side squats, just like when we went to La Salle Park) weights, seated wall squats, just to name a few. We were all sweating up a storm and loving it :-)
At the end of the work day, I hurried to pick up the little bundles of joy.
We went home, they started on their homework as I went outside to cut the grass in the backyard.
Before heading to the front yard, I asked the kids if they were done with their homework, yippy, they were, so they joined me outside.
They rode their bikes back and forth on the side walk and into neighbours driveways while I cut the grass in the front, everyone was happy, enjoying the weather.
I came in sneezing (allergy season) took allergy med that will eventually make me drowsy (I only take this as a back up when I cut the grass, I take the non-drowsy med in the morning).
Got dinner going and went for a quick shower.
When I was done, hubby got home and we had dinner.
Had kids take a shower and hung out for a bit.
Sent them off to bed with bear hugs and butterfly kisses :-)
Cut up some oranges and grapefruit to nibble on while watching The Office, Thirty Rock and other Thursday night funnies.
Will hopefully go to bed by 11pm... never happens... but, I'm hopeful :-)
That was a day in the life of me...
It may seem ordinary but its great!!!
Even though it's more or less the same routine on a daily bases, you just never know what lies ahead and that's what makes it exciting and fun :-)

Should I or shouldn't I???
Well, this morning started the same as any other morning, with the annoying beep, beep, beep. That's my imitation of my alarm clock, which doesn't seem as annoying when you are reading it.
That reminds me of when we put an alarm clock in my six year old son's room. When it went off in the morning, instead of pressing the snooze button, he shut it off. When he got up he said that he didn't like having the alarm clock in his room because it was too loud and it woke him up :-)
My response was, yup, that's what it's supposed to do, to which he said "I still don't like it".
I can't disagree with that!!!
Sooooooooooo, anyways... back to this morning. I was "going" to get up this morning to run, had every intention, was pumped and ready. Can I just say "warm, cozy, comfy bed???" Yup, I ended up calling today a "rest" day... did not see that coming.
Tonight was CSAC meeting (I'm on the parent/school committee) at my little bundles of joy school. It started at 6:30pm and didn't end 'til 9pm and trust me it would have gone longer because we can talk, but the permit was over at 9pm.
Heading to bed now...
I look forward to the beep, beep, beep sound that will play every three minutes, as I keep pressing the snooze.
I will be up to do my homework, it's a great start to the day :-)

I will be up to do my homework, it's a great start to the day :-)
GOOD NIGHT!!!

I now have a title :-)
I'm such a Loser, that's right... with a capital "L".
I kept looking at everyone's blog, wondering how they had titles and asking myself why mine kept showing up as "untitled".
I have titles to all my blogs. I just never looked above the curser to notice the word "Title".
Yes, I am still getting used to this blogging thingie.
HELP!!!

I finally get to write my blog... yippy :-)
Sunday the group met at Kerncliff Park in Burlington to do our second insane workout.
I kissed my hubby and kiddies good-bye as I left my house. When I got in the car I thought "Oh no, I forgot my raincoat, but it's ok, it's not raining". As I was driving, guess what happened... it started raining and at first it was a little drop here and there then it started coming down, the wipers were on full speed as I was getting closer to my destination, I thought "crap, I should have gone back for my raincoat, oh well, it's just water". When I parked the car the heavy rain turned into drops here and there, it was all good.
We started with skipping and stretching, once we were done with that, the fun began!!!
We went to an open area and we were divided into two groups of five. One group stayed in the open area and did: ten squats, ten squats with side leg lifts and to finish it off fifteen push-ups. This group would continuously do this routine until the other group showed up from doing: running to boardwalk then doing twenty step-ups onto wet bench, along with fifteen tricep dips. Once you have completed that you ran to second bench and did the same routine then you ran to third bench and repeated the routine. After the third routine you sprinted back to the open area where the other group was doing their workout. You then switched it up with the other group, this was done twice. After all that we walked back to original spot and did some ab work and stretching.
It was hard but enjoyed the challenge.... AND.... there were NO BURPEES INVOLVED!!! Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy :-)
Oh yes, I failed to mention, we were being filmed, yet again... even though a certain someone... Shane, had mentioned in his last email that we were not going to be filmed. Many of us were like WTF is up with the camera??? It's wet and cold out, come on... who needs to film this???
After saying good-bye to everyone I went to my car and turned up the heat in the car as well as the seat warmer. I was wet and cold and needed some warming up.
As I was driving I saw Indigo Books. I thought to myself "there is a Starbucks and washroom in there" great combo after being outdoors on a cold, windy, and somewhat rainy day.
I quickly pulled in. I ended up staying for 45 minutes. I walked around and enjoyed some quiet time to myself :-)
It was a great day. I really enjoy the routines that the Phat Chicks put us through, doing it with others helps to push us to our limits.
Tomorrow morning will be the start to this week's homework :-)

So, I've done the homework 2x this week... who ever came up with burpees SUCKS!!!
At least we didn't have to do suicides for homework :-) Happy, happy, joy, joy.
Some of the things we had to do were: squats, lunges (this way and that way and all around), push ups, jumping jacks, jump ups (using stairs/bench... I stuck to the stairs) these were a killer, plank knee drops, and the list goes on.
We had to do each exercise for one minute, doesn't seem like a long time BUT it could feel like a lifetime when you are doing something like burpees or jump ups!!!
Looking forward to meeting up with the group and moving through tomorrow's challenge together.

Oh MY God!!!
Today was our first fitness challenge... boy was it a challenge and a major wake up call that I need others to push me (thanks Shane... just kidding) to my ultimate limits.
The weather was cold, windy BUT at least it didn't rain :-)
We started with a few laps of running and jumping jacks, stretching and s-u-i-c-i-d-e-s... YIKES!!! There were five pilons set up for us and we did three sets with about a minute rest in-between. This was the start to a puckish feeling. Have you ever pushed yourself to the point where you thought "I'm going to throw up, not only what I ate for breakfast but also what I ate for dinner the day before?" It's not a good feeling however, you do get past it and you move on to your next challenges, which consisted of: push ups for one minute, burpees for another minute, running down stairs and doing side squats as we came up the stairs then running to top of hill!!! Oh yah, I almost forgot... the cool down/stretching :-)
Today's workout was insane, challenging, pushed us to our limits...
Look forward to keeping up with the blogging and we have some "homework" that we need to keep up with as well, meaning challenging ourselves a few times a week on our own until we meet with the group again on the weekend.
Until next time...

Looking forward to joining the two Phat Chics http://www.phatchicks.ca/ and nine other ladies in a challenging workout this Saturday in Burlington, yes I said Burlington, hey it's worth the drive :-)

Oooooooohhh the world of blogging just keeps getting better...
I once again went to add my name to be a "follower" and I notice that they are using my "nickname"... what the...???
Now, here's another short version of a l-o-n-g story...
In high school I was nicknamed "slinky" why you might ask? because my name was hard to pronounce for some people (who still to this day remain close friends of mine).
So, there ya go, if you see the name Slinky as one of your followers, please don't be frightened... it's not the toy from the past coming back to haunt ya... it's me Szerenka (like Sir-Anka)
Thanks blogging world, didn't think I would be explaining my nickname...
If someone could help me out with figuring out how to use my name instead of my nickname as a follower, I look forward to your thoughts. I've tried changing it on my profile... no such luck :-(

Blog... blog... blog
Hello,
Here I go again, writing in my "blog"...
I'm going to let you know just how blogless I am, meaning: clueless :-)
I went to "follower" and I ended up adding myself as a follower to my own blog, its king of creepy seeing my name as one of the followers.
Sooooooooooo, for those that are wondering why I have a blog, here's the short story, cause I've gotta run... the kiddies have basketball tonight!!!
Anyhow, I entered a contest... I NEVER win... and I won!!!
There are 10 of us ladies and we are training for a fun filled adventure which will take place July 23rd. Two out of ten of us will have the opportunity to go on and be in the adventure race, which includes canoeing, biking, running and I think a lot of energy! The two chosen will find out two weeks before the race... fingers crossed :-)
You can find out more at this site http://www.racedayrush.com/train/
I will keep you and myself up to date with the training that will take place...
Until next time.
Keep Smiling
